ramadan day 2
Mar. 12th, 2024 10:45 pmwanted to document this somewhere so I figured here is a good start. I'm arab, raised christian, not currently religious, but have always felt very compelled by Ramadan each year. it feels like it pulls me closer towards a homeland that I have rarely set foot in. so this year I'm doing what I've wanted to for many years: fasting. in part because of the proximity to home I feel with Ramadan, and in part in solidarity with Palestinians being starved and genocided. making it a practice to recommit to my work (which has felt half-neglected for these months of grief) as well as to contacting my fools in the legislature Extremely Regularly (which I have also burnt out of doing).
today was my first time fasting ever. it honestly went better than I expected. for medical reasons I am not giving up water, but with this accommodation I got through the day and functioned about as much as I hoped. 3/3 for calls, emails, and faxes sent. Imagining tomorrow will feel a little lighter in attempt.
the moon tonight was a crescent like a cheshire cat. smiling smiling.
